The goal of SB5068 is to extend Medicaid coverage from sixty days to one year postpartum for individuals who receive postpartum coverage on or after the expiration date of the federal public health emergency related to COVID-19. SB5068 will increase access and continuity of health care, protect maternal and infant health, and address racial and ethnic disparities in maternal mortality rates.

By June 1, 2022, requires HCA to provide one-year of postpartum coverage for individuals who are WA residents with countable income up to 193% FPL.  Individuals are continuously eligible for the coverage regardless of income changes.

SB5068 directs the Health Care Authority to work with HBE and stakeholder organizations to establish a comprehensive community education and outreach campaign. Additionally, the Health Care Authority will submit a waiver to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for federal match.
