A public building conversion grant program is created in order to encourage counties to convert unused, publicly owned buildings into housing for people experiencing homelessness. Grants will be awarded annually, and will be managed by the department.
Counties applying for the grants must have populations less than 100K and must submit quarterly inventory of unused public buildings. Funds may only be used for building conversions, and not for maintenance of staff. Counties are required to prohibit the illegal possession of controlled substances on the premises of any building that receives this grant.
