HB1149 requires the superintendent of public instruction to identify the public health knowledge and skills that public school students in grades 9-12 need to know and apply in support of health enhancing behaviors, positive health outcomes, and healthy communities.

The bill states that the public health knowledge and skills, and associated outcomes, must be an integrated component of the health and physical education state learning standards, and include new or modified grade-level outcome for students in grades 9-12. HB1149 will take effect in the beginning of the 2022-23 school year and be incorporated into the health and physical education state learning standards upon the adoption of any new or revised health and physical education state learning standards occurring on or after 1-1-22.

A public health education advisory committee will provide advice, assistance, and recommendations to the superintendent to ensure the new public health education requirements are met. Membership of the committee is identified.
